Australia vs. Denmark - Betting tips, predictions, and odds
Australia and Denmark will battle in Round 3 of Group D at the FIFA World Cup and one of them will go home after this tilt at Al Janoub Stadium. We’re giving you the best Australia vs. Denmark betting tips and predictions.
H2H, form, and stats
Australia and Denmark have faced on four occasions thus far. Three of those H2H duels were friendlies, while the most recent actually took place at the World Cup in Russia four years ago when it was 1-1 in the group stage. Denmark has two wins and Australia one with that draw in Russia.
Australia was demolished by the reigning champions France in Round 1 even though the Socceroos took an early 1-0 lead. France secured a comfortable 4-1 win in the end, and when many thought Tunisia is going to beat Graham Arnold’s team, they surprised the African side with a 1-0 victory.
Mitchell Duke scored a fantastic header in the 23rd minute, while the defense was rock-solid for the remainder of the game to keep a clean sheet and secure three precious points. Now, the Aussies need just a point against Denmark and France not to lose against Tunisia to reach the Round of 16. That loss against Les Bleus was Australia’s only in seven games (W6).
Denmark was close to snatching a draw against the world champions in Round 2 as they had a 1-1 result, but France scored a late goal to win 2-1. The Danish Dynamite has just a point from the first two matches and now has an imperative to beat Australia in order to advance to the knockout stage.
After a rather uninteresting and uninspiring first half, Andreas Christensen canceled out Kylian Mbappe’s opener, but Mbappe scored a winner in the 86th minute and broke the Danish hearts. Even if Denmark got a point, they’d still need three against Australia. Denmark is playing in hot and cold form; Kasper Hjulmand’s men won one of the last four games (D1, L2).
Injuries and squad news
Defender Nathaniel Atkinson is dealing with an injury he sustained in Round 1 against France and will likely be sidelined for the game against Denmark. Fran Karacic or Milos Degenek will start as the right-back in Atkinson’s place.
Denmark’s head coach Kasper Hjulmand cannot count on injured midfielder Thomas Delaney, who is out of the World Cup with a knee injury. Captain Simon Kjær is also out since the second half of the game against France, and his availability against Australia is up in the air. Hjulmand still didn't find his regular starters in the attack, so we can only guess who will start up front against the Aussies. Kasper Dolberg and Andreas Skov Olsen got a start in Round 1, while Andreas Cornelius started against France. Martin Braithwaite is also in the mix, while it looks that Hjulmand doesn't count on Yussuf Poulsen.
Australia vs. Denmark Betting predictions and odds
Denmark is a firm favorite at 1.49 odds; Australia can be backed at 6.75 in case you believe they can upset the Danes, while a draw is 4.28. The bookmakers are pretty undecided about the goals in this encounter; Over 2.5 goals is at 1.91, while Under 2.5 goals is at 1.89.
Our best tip for Australia vs. Denmark game
Denmark must get three points and judging the quality of these two rivals, there is no doubt the Danish Dynamite is a better team. Australia will try everything to stay unbeaten in this duel and make it through to the Round of 16 with a point, but the Socceroos reached that stage just once in their history, and we don’t think they will do it again in Qatar. Denmark failed to beat them four years ago, but this time around, we’re going with the Danes. Not only that we think the favorites will get a W here, but we also believe Denmark will score at least two goals.
