Belgium vs. Morocco - Betting tips, predictions, and odds

Belgium and Morocco will kick off Round 2 of Group F at the FIFA World Cup when they face at Al Thumama Stadium. Here you can take a look at the best Belgium vs. Morocco betting tips and predictions.

H2H, form, and stats

Belgium and Morocco have faced three times thus far. The first-ever H2H was at the World Cup in 1994 when the Red Devils won 1-0 in the group phase. They played a couple of friendlies after that and each team recorded a win. Morocco was better, 4-1, in the most recent H2H that took place in 2008.

Belgium opened this World Cup with three points against Canada but failed to impress and undeservedly got a victory. Roberto Martínez’s men were inferior for most of the match and struggled on defense early on. They conceded a penalty in the 11th minute, but Thibaut Courtois saved Alphonso Davies’ poor shot. The Belgians dodged a bullet there and then had luck not to allow a goal throughout the game, while they converted their only chance on the other end. Michy Batshuayi scored the game’s only goal late in the first half as he took advantage of bad positioning from Canada’s defenders. With this 1-0 victory, Belgium avoided its third consecutive defeat.

Morocco held the world’s vice-champions Croatia to a 0-0 stalemate in Round 1 to extend its winning streak to eight matches (W5, D3). In what was one of the most boring games of the tournament so far, the Atlas Lions weren't inferior to the favorites and deserved to earn a point, which could mean a lot for the remainder of the group stage.

Injuries and squad news

Belgium’s top goal-scorer Romelu Lukaku is still suffering from a thigh injury and is doubtful to play on Sunday. Inter’s striker will probably be ready to feature off the bench in Round 3 against Croatia if needed. However, this isn't Roberto Martinez’s only issue. It was evident that Belgium’s defense is not good, despite the fact that they kept the net intact. That wasn't thanks to defenders, but thanks to phenomenal Courtois. Belgium’s starting eleven was the oldest (30 years and 181 days on average) since June 1998, and it’s clear that Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are way past their prime. Martinez could opt to deploy Wout Faes and/or Arthur Theate, who are much faster and can run with pacy Moroccan forwards.

Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui will likely keep the same starting XI that started the game against Croatia. He doesn't have a single negative thing to say to his players following that 0-0 draw, especially the defenders and goalkeeper Bono. They will have to be more clinical in front of the opposition’s goal, and opportunities will arise against slow Belgians. Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En Nesyri are players to watch against Belgium.

Belgium vs. Morocco Betting predictions and odds

The bookies were not impressed by what they saw in Belgium’s game and therefore the odds on the Red Devils jumped from 1.50 to 1.95! You can back Morocco to win at 4.00, while a draw is at 3.44. For those who prefer betting on goals, Over 2.5 goals is at 2.05, while Under 2.5 goals is at 1.77.

Our best tip for Belgium vs. Morocco game

The Belgians were very lucky not to concede against inexperienced Canadians, but we don't think they will be lucky against Morocco on Sunday. That aging defense will cost them at this tournament, and it’s only a matter of time before some team scores multiple goals against Belgium. Thibaut Courtois is a great goalkeeper, but even he can’t save the Red Devils every time. Belgium is strong in the midfield and has a solid forward in Batshuayi, so they should be fine when it comes to scoring. We think that Morocco has the quality and knowledge to put at least one goal behind Courtois’ back in this one.
