Brazil vs. Serbia - Betting tips, predictions, and odds
Brazil and Serbia will play the second game of Group G at the FIFA World Cup in a clash at Lusail Iconic Stadium. Read the best Brazil vs. Serbia betting tips and predictions.
H2H, form, and stats
Brazil and Serbia have met two times before, and each time, the Brazilians were better. The first H2H meeting was a friendly in 2014, while the most recent clash was at the World Cup in Russia four years ago. Back then, these two nations were also drawn in the same group; Paulinho and Thiago Silva scored for A Seleção as Brazil won 2-0.
Brazil experienced a fantastic qualification stage for this World Cup and dominate the South American zone. They finished atop the CONMEBOL with 45 points out of 17 games, six more than Argentina. Brazil won 14 of those matches and scored 40 goals, allowing just four in return.
The Brazilians completed the qualifications with three 4-0 victories, while they also won each of their last four friendly games. Tite’s men beat South Korea, Japan, Ghana, and Tunisia, all of which are participants in this year’s World Cup. Brazil is on a seven-game winning streak and didn't lose a match since the Copa America final in July 2021.
Serbia, on the other hand, surprised many by ending the qualifications above Portugal with a last-minute 2-1 win in Lisbon. Those three points helped the Eagles to leapfrog Portugal in the table and avoid the playoffs. Dragan Stojković’s side didn't suffer a single defeat and won six of eight qualification matches, scoring a group-high 18 goals along the way. Serbia was impressive in the UEFA Nations League as well after beating Norway on the road in the final round to secure a place in the League A next season. Serbia won five of the previous six games (one draw), including a 5-1 victory over Bahrain in the ultimate preparation game for the World Cup.
Injuries and squad news
Tite shocked a lot of Brazilian fans and football fanatics across the world with his squad selection for Qatar. Among the high-profile players he omitted are Roberto Firmino (the team’s 3rd top scorer) and Gabriel Magalhães, who have been in impressive form for Liverpool and Arsenal, respectively. Instead, Tite opted for such players as Richarlison (zero goals for Tottenham in the Premier League this season), Antony (who was more injured than match-fit at Manchester United), Fred, Pedro (Flamengo), and Bremer, among others.
Of course, all eyes will be on Neymar, who only needs two more goals to tie Pele’s record of 77 goals for Brazil, and 21 more caps to tie Cafu’s record of 142. Vinícius Júnior, Gabriel Jesus, Casemiro, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, and Alisson are the biggest stars alongside Neymar and will play a vital role in Brazil’s quest for the sixth World Cup title.
Dragan Stojković called pretty much all the players who featured in the qualifications and UNL. The only surprise could be Red Star’s defender Strahinja Eraković, but he is likely not going to see any minutes in Qatar. Serbia has a trilling of great forwards: Aleksandar Mitrović, Dušan Vlahović, and Luka Jović. Stojković will probably use Mitrović and Vlahović in the starting lineup, with Jović serving as their backup. Captain Dušan Tadić is pulling all the strings from the midfield and is the most creative player in the squad. Sergej Milinković-Savić, Filip Kostić, Nemanja Radonjić, and Andrija Živković also can contribute and feed the duo in the attack as Stojković uses a 3-5-2 formation. On defense, Nikola Milenković, Strahinja Pavlović, and Stefan Mitrović hold the line, so this team looks pretty good.
Brazil vs. Serbia Betting predictions and odds
Brazil is the biggest favorite to win this competition, and therefore, it’s normal that the bookies are giving 1.45 odds on them to beat Serbia in the opener. If you believe the Eagles can make an upset, you can back them at 7.20, while a draw is at 4.50. In case you think these rivals can combine for 3+ goals, you can bet on Over 2.5 goals at 1.78, while Under 2.5 goals is at 2.00.
Our best tip for Brazil vs. Serbia game
It’s early in the tournament and arguably, these two are the strongest teams in the group. While the Brazilians are massive favorites, we can’t ignore Serbia’s recent success and the way they play under legendary Dragan Stojković. Serbia is playing very attractive football; they managed to score four goals in two matches against Portugal, and we believe they can score at least one against Brazil here. Serbia failed to score only once in the last 15 games. If the underdogs manage to open the scoring, this duel could produce plenty of goals on each end.
