Czech Republic vs Denmark
Czech Republic vs Denmark is the third quarter final of Euro 2020 and takes place on July 3 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Czech Republic are into the quarter-finals thanks to a shock 2-0 win over the Netherlands in the round of 16 while Denmark thrashed Wales 4-0 to book their passage to the last eight. Read on for more analysis, match predictions and betting tips.
Form
It’s been quite a tournament for the Czech Republic. Ranked only 40 in the world, they managed to get through Group D despite defeat to England in the final group match by virtue of being one of the best third-placed teams. Not many people will have backed them to beat the Netherlands but the sending off of Matthijs de Ligt for a deliberate handball turned the match on its head and Jaroslav Silhavy’s team took full advantage. It was only the second clean sheet the Czech Republic have kept in nine games this calendar year; the first coming against Scotland in their group opener. There is always a surprise package at the European Championships - is it the Czech Republic this time out?
Denmark’s tournament looked like it was going to be overshadowed by Christian Eriksen having a heart attack on the pitch in the opening game, but Kasper Hjulmand’s team have shown some real resolve and are now a good outside bet to win the whole thing. They were ruthless in their match against Wales, growing into the game as the Welsh deflated in the second half and punishing every mistake made by Robert Page’s side. Their two defeats in Group B were their only two defeats this calendar year - and the one to Finland was understandable considering the circumstances. With eight goals in two games Denmark appear to be on fire; it’s going to be tough for Czech Republic to keep them out.

Injuries
Czech skipper Vladimir Darida has returned to training ahead of this game after missing out on the win over the Netherlands due to an unspecified injury. The Czech team have been reluctant to talk about what kept Darida out, only saying that it was out of consideration and respect for the player who wanted things kept quiet. Left-back Jan Boril also returns to contention having sat out the last game suspended for two yellow cards. Bayer Leverkusen forward Patrick Schick is the leading goalscorer of the tournament who is still involved with four goals; can he overhaul Cristiano Ronaldo who scored five for Portugal before they got knocked out?
Palma striker Andreas Cornelius may be out of this game having picked up a knock in training. The forward has come on as a sub in all four games and if he should miss out it could leave Denmark a bit light up front. However, Yussuf Poulsen, Daniel Wass and Simon Kjaer are all coming back from injury and could be involved in this game. If Poulsen remains sidelined a lot will rest on Nice striker Kasper Dolberg, who scored twice in the win against Wales.
Match Predictions
Denmark are favourites for this game with the bookies offering between 2.05 and 2.10 against the Danes winning the tie in 90 minutes. However, it’s expected to be a close game with the bookies offering 2.40 against the Czech Republic qualifying for the next round. Denmark have only lost once in eleven meetings with the Czech Republic and although it’s been five years since the two teams last played it’s interesting that six of those 11 meetings have been draws. Goals markets might be the ones to look for betting tips, with over 2.5 goals trading at around 2.30. With both teams in the goals in the last round, it’s quite possible this one will be open too.
