England vs. France - Betting tips, predictions, and odds
England and France will cross swords in the last quarterfinal game of the FIFA World Cup when they meet at Al Bayt Stadium. Here you can check out the best England vs. France betting tips and predictions.
H2H, form, and stats
Since 1962, England and France have met on 13 occasions. Two of those H2Hs were played at the World Cup, and the Three Lions won both; 2-0 in 1966 and 3-1 in 1982. France won the most recent duel in 2017 as they beat England 3-2 in a friendly match. France leads the all-time H2Hs with a W6, D4, L3 record.
After finishing 1st in its group above the USA, Iran, and Wales, England didn’t have problems with Senegal in the Round of 16. The Lions of Teranga proved to be weak to challenge Gareth Southgate’s team without Sadio Mane, and the Englishmen won 3-0. Jordan Henderson opened up the scoring in the 38th minute, Harry Kane scored his first goal in the tournament late in the first half, while Bukayo Saka set the final score with his third goal of the competition. England is without a loss in the last five games (W3, D2). They kept a clean sheet in each of the previous three.
France lost the final game of the group stage against Tunisia as Didier Deschamps decided to rest his key players. Even so, Les Bleus ended at the top of the group with six points, thanks to victories over Australia and Denmark in the first two matches here in Qatar. They met Poland in the Round of 16 and secured a comfortable 3-1 victory. It was 3-0 until the very last minute of the game when Robert Lewandowski scored from the penalty for the Poles. Olivier Giroud bagged his 52nd goal for the national side and became the all-time top goal-scorer, leapfrogging legendary Thierry Henry in the process. Fantastic Kylian Mbappe had a brace and is now the top scorer of this tournament with five goals.
Injuries and squad news
England will play without Ben White, who is out for personal reasons, but they are stronger for Raheem Sterling, who returned to Qatar from England after personal problems. His house was raided by armed robbers with his family in it, and Sterling had to fly home. It’s unknown whether he’ll be ready to start, but Gareth Southgate has to be happy with what his starters did in the last two matches while Sterling was absent. The head coach will probably field Kane, Foden, and Saka in the attack.
France’s head coach Didier Deschamps cannot count on Lucas Hernandez (knee) and Karim Benzema (muscle), but so far, their absences didn't affect the way the team plays. Giroud and Mbappe have combined for eight goals, so Deschamps doesn't have any reason to be worried. Griezmann and Dembele will accompany them in the attack, while Varana and Upamecano will star in the heart of the defense.
Betting predictions and odds
France is a slight 2.50 favorite to beat England and progress to the semi-finals. The Three Lions did play well so far in the tournament, and if you think they can defeat Les Bleus, bet on them at 2.90. A draw is 3.26, and when it comes to goals, Over 2.5 goals is 2.08, while Under 2.5 goals is set at 1.74.
Our best tip for England vs. France game
This will be one of the most exciting games of the World Cup in Qatar, and the winner of this clash could go all the way and win the trophy. It’s going to be an even duel and small details will decide the tilt, so backing a winner here is not something we’d suggest. There are plenty of attacking talents on each side, and considering how both teams played in front of the goal thus far, we expect to see at least one in each net. We could have a real spectacle on Saturday.
