Mexico vs Poland - Betting tips, predictions and odds
The second game of Group C at the World Cup will take place at Stadium 974 between Mexico and Poland. Here you can get the best Mexico vs. Poland betting tips and predictions.
H2H, form, and stats
Mexico and Poland have faced on four occasions. Their first-ever H2H meeting was at the World Cup in 1978 when Poland won 3-1. They played a pair of friendlies in 2005 and 2011, both of which finished 1-1, while Mexico won the most recent H2H in 2017 when Raul Jimenez scored the game’s only goal in Gdańsk.
Mexico was tied in points with Canada in the CONCACAF qualification zone, but the Maple Leafs had a better goal difference and topped the group. After losing to both USA and Canada on the road, the Mexicans finished with five undefeated games and secured their place in their 17th World Cup. El Tri played four friendly games to prepare for this tournament in Qatar and won two with two defeats. They beat Peru and Iraq, while they lost to Paraguay and Colombia.
Poland’s path to the World Cup wasn't easy. They ended the qualifications behind England and had to play two additional matches in the playoffs to make it to Qatar. Following a walkout victory against suspended Russia, the Eagles were better than Sweden. Their displays haven't been good in the UEFA Nations League, but they will remain in Group A of that competition after finishing third behind the Netherlands and Belgium, but above Wales.
Injuries and squad news
Mexico’s head coach Gerardo Martino incurred the wrath of the fans after the decision to omit Jesús Manuel Corona, who has 71 caps and ten goals for the national side. Martino, on the other hand, decided to call injured forward Raúl Jiménez, who is struggling with a groin injury and is not expected to return in time for at least the first two games in the group.
Jiménez is the top scorer of this generation, but with him sidelined, the Mexicans will rely on the captain and most-capped player Andrés Guardado, Héctor Herrera, and Edson Álvarez to boss the midfield. Hirving Lozano will lead the line, while on defense, Héctor Moreno and talismanic goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa can make the difference.
Poland’s head coach Czesław Michniewicz left midfielders Karol Linetty and Mateusz Klich at home, while striker Adam Buksa couldn't travel to Qatar due to an injury. Still, the Poles have one of the best strikers in the world, Robert Lewandowski, who will try to take the Eagles to the knockout stage for the first time since 1986.
Alongside Lewy, Poland will rely on the experience of Grzegorz Krychowiak, Kamil Grosicki, Piotr Zieliński, Kamil Glik, Arkadiusz Milik, and Wojciech Szczęsny. Matty Cash, Aston Villa’s right-back, is also one of the players to watch at this tournament.
Mexico - Poland Betting predictions and odds
Mexico is a slight favorite with the bookmakers, but in all honesty, this one could go either way. You can back the Mexicans to win at 2.62; if you think Poland can get three points you can bet at 2.81, while a draw is at 3.15. Not plenty of goals are expected in this match; Over 2.5 goals is at 2.40, while Under 2.5 goals can be backed at 1.57.
Our best tip for Mexico vs. Poland game
This is one of the most uncertain and even games of the first round at the World Cup. Whoever wins this one will likely join Argentina in the next phase, so we are pretty sure both Mexico and Poland will be looking to open the tournament without losing. They will search for three points against Saudi Arabia, and a goal difference could turn out to be crucial in the final standings in this group. We’re going with a draw.
Pick: Draw (3.15)
