Saudi Arabia vs. Mexico - Betting tips, predictions, and odds
Saudi Arabia and Mexico will face in Round 3 of Group C at the FIFA World Cup and both will be looking for a win at Lusail Iconic Stadium. Make sure you don't miss out on the best Saudi Arabia vs. Mexico betting tips and predictions.
H2H, form, and stats
Saudi Arabia and Mexico have met three times so far; each time at the FIFA Confederations Cup and every time Mexico won. However, the previous H2H was in 1999.
Saudi Arabia shocked the entire planet with a 2-1 victory over Argentina after coming from behind to record a historic win. The Green Falcons played very well in Round 2 against Poland, but didn't have luck and lost 2-0 in the end. Captain Salem Al Dawsari missed an opportunity to tie the game at 1-1 late in the first half after missing a penalty, while Poland scored another goal in the second half to make it 2-0. Hervé Renard’s side had 16 shots opposite Poland’s eight, but that didn't help them to find the back of the net. It was Saudi Arabia’s second loss in ten matches (W3, D5).
Mexico is one of the most unpleasant surprises of this World Cup after failing to score a single goal in the opening two rounds against Poland and Argentina. While El Tri had several chances against the Poles, they were completely toothless against Argentina with a miserable one shot on target. Mexico, who reached the Round of 16 in seven consecutive World Cups, is facing elimination here and must get a win to stay alive, while even that doesn't guarantee them a place in the knockout phase. Gerardo Martino’s men recorded only three wins in 11 games (D3, L5).
Injuries and squad news
Hervé Renard will be without Salman Al Faraj, Yasser Al Shahrani (broken cheekbone), and Abdulelah Al Malki (suspension). Saudi Arabia will continue with a 4-2-3-1 formation, and Salem Al Dawsari will be a man to watch as he was the most active Green Falcon in the first two rounds.
Mexico’s head coach Gerardo Martino cannot count on captain Andres Guardado, who sustained a muscle injury in the first half against Argentina. Erick Gutierrez is the one who should take Guardado’s place in the starting eleven. The displays from Martino’s men so far in this tournament were pathetic.
It seems that this is one of the weakest Mexican teams in this century, at least, and that they don't have the required quality to progress to the knockout stage. Martino played with five at the back and he will have to be more attacking against Saudi Arabia, as his team will probably need a multi-goal win.
Betting predictions and odds
Despite poor performances, Mexico is still a favorite against Saudi Arabia. The odds on El Tri are 1.66, but if you were impressed with Saudi Arabis at this World Cup and you would like to see them in the Round of 16, you can back them at 4.80, while a draw is at 4.10. The bookies are leaning toward a high-scoring game as they give 1.72 odds on Over 2.5 goals and 2.12 on Under 2.5 goals.
Our best tip for Saudi Arabia vs. Mexico game
Even though the Mexicans are favorites here, it’s more because of the FIFA rankings than the displays they showed in this tournament. Saudi Arabia has been playing very well and won plenty of hearts with its attractive, attacking style.
The Green Falcons could advance with a point here if Argentina beats Poland with a three or more goals margin, while a win would definitely send them to the Round of 16. Hervé Renard’s team deserves to play in the knockout stage considering how they played thus far, and we’re backing them not to lose on Wednesday.
