Senegal vs. Netherlands - Betting tips, predictions, and odds
The second day of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar gives us a Group A tilt between Senegal and Netherlands at Al Thumama Stadium. Check out the best Senegal vs. Netherlands betting tips and predictions.
H2H, form, and stats
It’s going to be the first-ever meeting between these two teams. After winning the first African Cup of Nations in history, Senegal qualified for the World Cup by defeating Egypt on a 2-1 aggregate over two legs in March this year. The Lions of Teranga then took part in the COSAFA Cup African Nations Championship and played a pair of friendlies as a part of the preparation for the WC2022. Senegal beat Bolivia 2-0 and drew 1-1 with Iran.
The Netherlands topped their World Cup qualification group with 23 points, two ahead of Turkey and five more than Norway. The Oranje is unbeaten in the last 15 games and secured a top spot in the UEFA Nations League group with 16 out of a maximum of 18 points and six more than Belgium. They are one of the hottest teams in this tournament and massive favorites to win Group A.
Injuries and squad news
Senegal’s head coach Aliou Cissé has one major concern for the World Cup as the team’s best player and top goalscorer Sadio Mane is injured. Mane will travel with the squad to Qatar, but will likely miss the group phase, so Senegal fans can only hope that their nation will advance to the knockout stage without a talismanic forward.
Mane will definitely be missed, considering he scored 34 goals for Senegal, but Cissé still can count on other quality players such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gueye, Ismaïla Sarr, and Édouard Mendy. Also, Villarreal’s forward Nicolas Jackson got a call-up and could be a pleasant surprise in Qatar.
The Netherlands’ head coach Louis van Gaal had a broader pool of players to choose from than Cissé, but couldn't count on injured Gini Wijnaldum and Bruno Martins Indi. Donyell Malen, Arnaut Danjuma, Ryan Gravenberch, and Sven Botman didn't make a 26-man list.
Captain Virgin van Dijk will lead the Oranje alongside his defensive colleague Matthijs de Ligt. Frenkie de Jong and his teammate Memphis Depay are responsible for the attack and chance creation. Depay scored 42 goals for the national squad and needs eight more to tie Robin van Persie’s record at the top of the goalscoring list for the Netherlands.
Senegal vs. Netherlands Betting predictions and odds
The Netherlands are favorites in this game, and after Sadio Mane’s news, they become bigger favorites to win, so the online bookmakers are giving -167 odds on them. Senegal’s victory can be backed at 6.20, while a draw is at 3.95. Over 2.5 goals is at 2.15 odds, while Under 2.5 goals is at 1.73.
Our best tip for Senegal vs. Netherlands game
Senegal is a way better team with Sadio Mane in the lineup, and before he sustained an injury, we believed the Lions of Teranga can score and perhaps manage to avoid a defeat against the Netherlands.
Considering the current situation and the strength of this Netherlands team, especially on defense, the only logical bet would be on the Oranje to win. Now, the odds are not very attractive, so we’re going with a -1 handicap on the Netherlands. This means that if they win by only a goal, we will get our stake back, while we’re doubling our stake if they beat Senegal by two goals or more.
