Tunisia vs. France - Betting tips, predictions, and odds
Tunisia and France are playing in Round 3 of Group D at the FIFA World Cup and Les Bleus already qualified for the Round of 16, while the Eagles of Carthage must get three points at Education City Stadium. Here you can get the best Tunisia vs. France betting tips and predictions.
H2H, form, and stats
Tunisia and France have met three times before, all three were friendly matches. Two ended 1-1, while France recorded one 3-1 victory. The most recent H2H meeting was 12 years ago.
Tunisia displayed much more at this World Cup than its current place in the group standings suggests, After a good showing in a 0-0 stalemate against Denmark, the Eagles of Carthage suffered an undeserved 1-0 defeat to Australia. Jalel Kadri’s men didn't impress in the opening half, not only because they conceded a goal, but because they didn't have a single shot on target.
They were much better in the second 45 minutes and were close to scoring on a few occasions, but Matt Ryan kept all those attempts away to secure a clean sheet. That means Tunisia is still scoreless in Qatar but will have a chance to find the back of the net against France, who already booked its place in the Round of 16. Tunis lost two of the previous 11 matches (W6, D3).
France beat Australia 4-1 and Denmark 2-1 to secure a place in the knockout stage. Les Bleus had an easy job in the opener, but the Danish Dynamite proved to be a worthy opponent. After all, Denmark beat them twice in 2022 in the UEFA Nations League. Didier Deschamps’ side got to a 1-0 lead through Kylian Mbappe in the 61st minute after a rather uninteresting first half.
Denmark tied the game as Andreas Christensen scored seven minutes later, and Denmark then had a couple of opportunities to take a lead but missed them. Mbappe punished those misses with his second goal in the 86th minute to make it 2-1. Following a poor series of four games without a victory, France now has three wins in the last four games (L1).
Injuries and squad news
Tunisia’s head coach Jalel Kadri has all the players healthy and at his disposal, but even with a clean bill of health, his team is struggling in front of the goal. Wahbi Khazri, the top scorer of this generation, didn't play in Round 1 and received 24 minutes of playing time against Australia. If Kadri wants his team to have a chance of scoring against France, Khazri must start this game. Issam Jebali is simply just not good enough, and Khazri, although not in form, is a better player and talisman of this national team.
Didier Deschamps will likely decide to use some of his fringe players in this game. France already secured a top spot in the group, so Deschamps can give some playing time to the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Kingsley Coman, Youssouf Fofana, Matteo Guendouzi, Randal Kolo Muani, Ibrahima Konate, William Saliba, and Marcus Thuram. Olivier Giroud is still searching for that one goal that would put him alone at the top of the all-time goal-scoring chart for France, so it’s going to be interesting to see whether Deschamps will give him a chance or will rest him for the knockout phase.
Tunisia vs. France Betting predictions and odds
The odds on France to win jumped from 1.25 to 1.50, which is understandable after Les Bleus’ victory over Denmark. Tunisia will be hoping for a miracle here; a win over France and a draw between Australia and Denmark.
It is unlikely to happen, but the Eagles of Carthage will be highly motivated, not only because of three points and potential Round of 16 but also because of history and the fact that they are playing against their former colonizers. That’s why we believe Tunisia will score at least one goal after all those misses in the first two rounds. Of course, we do expect France to score as well, regardless of the starting lineup.
