Wales vs. Iran - Betting tips, predictions, and odds
Wales and Iran will open the action in Round 2 of Group B at the FIFA World Cup when they face at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium. Feel free to take a look at the best Wales vs. Iran betting tips and predictions.
H2H, form, and stats
Wales and Iran never met before, and this will be their first-ever H2H duel.
Wales salvaged a draw in the first World Cup game since 1958 thanks to a late penalty and captain Gareth Bale, who was calm and accurate from the spot to make it 1-1 against the USA. The Americans were better in the first half and got to a 1-0 lead, but the Dragons responded in the second 45 minutes and deserved to equalize. It was a fair 1-1 outcome, but Wales is still without a win in the last six matches (D2, L4).
Iran had a tough job in the opener against England and suffered a heavy 6-2 defeat. The Persian stars did defend well in the first 30 minutes, but their game plan fell apart when the Three Lions scored the opening goal in the 35th minute. England scored two more before halftime, but Iran started playing better in the second half and had three shots on target, two of which Mehdi Taremi converted into goals, the second from the penalty. It was the second consecutive loss for the Iranians, who lose to Tunisia 2-0 in the final friendly before the World Cup.
Injuries and squad news
Wales’ head coach Rob Page had to be disappointed with the performance of Daniel James, who was invincible on the pitch in the first half against the USA and was deservedly subbed off at halftime. It would be surprising to see James start against Iran, especially because his substitution Kieffer Moore impressed. Moore was excellent with the ball in his feet and even had some useful passes for Gareth Bale, so we assume Paige is going to start Moore alongside Bale in the attack against the Iranians. Neco Williams, Ethan Ampadu, and Harry Wilson sustained minor injuries and had to leave the field, but they should be fine for this clash.
That can’t be said for Iran’s goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand, who suffered a classic knockout when he clashed with his teammate early in the tilt against England. Beiranvand clearly suffered a broken nose and a concussion, so he will be out of contention against Wales. Hossein Hosseini, who came in for injured Beiranvand, had to take the ball out from the back of his net on six occasions and was one of the weakest players for Iran in a 6-2 loss. Mehdi Taremi is a man to watch for Iran, and Porto’s striker is truly their best player, so the fans rightfully put their hopes in him.
Wales vs. Iran Betting predictions and odds
Wales is a favorite in this game, and the odds on the Dragons are 2.12. If you like backing draws, you can do it at 3.04 odds, while Iran currently stands at 3.96. Another low-scoring match is upon us, according to the bookmakers, who are offering 1.53 odds on Under 2.5 goals and 2.49 on Over 2.5 goals.
Our best tip for Wales vs. Iran game
Well, we don’t care what the bookies think because our job is not to listen to them but to exploit their mistakes and make a profit. That said, we do think both teams have a decent chance to score at least a goal apiece in this duel. Iran did it twice against England, while Wales managed to score against the USA, who have a somewhat better defense than Iran. This time around, we expect Wales to score from an open play (we wouldn't mind if they score from the spot again, though), while Iran, who failed to score just twice in the last 24 matches, should find the back of the net as well.
